AGROCHEMICALS
Occurrence
Agrochemicals are used in all cultivation other than organic cultivation. They are used to protect tobacco plants against pests during the growing season, but even after harvest to mould and fungus. Without the use of agrochemicals, the harvest would be 50% lower, or even less than that.
Before we buy tobacco, we investigate if we find residues of 350 different agrochemicals. Out of these, only a few are traditionally used on tobacco, but we choose to test all 350. The corresponding test is also carried out on the finished Swedish snus product.
Health
The pesticide residues found in grown vegetables, fruits and tobacco entail no risk to health. The levels remaining after harvest are usually much lower than the stipulated limits. Moreover, the limits on the maximum amount of residual pesticides remaining on the plants are at a considerably lower level than would pose a health risk.
Swedish snus and foodstuffs
In the finished Swedish snus product you will find residues from two to ten different agrochemicals, but only in very low concentrations. The main thing is not the number of agrochemicals, but that the residues do not exceed the limits in GOTHIATEK.
Limit values
GOTHIATEK has limits for agrochemicals in accordance with EU legislation on cereals, fruits and vegetables.
