Solstickan – Birthday celebrations for famous 80-year old boy
Since 1936, the famous Solstickan boy has been portrayed on most match boxes sold in Sweden. For every product sold under the Solstickan brand, a portion of sales goes to The Solstickan Foundation. The foundation works for the benefit of children and the elderly by granting project funds, research scholarships and an annual Solstickan Award. Since its inception, over 100 million SEK has been donated by the foundation to different charities.
Being portrayed on the foreside of more than 10 billion match boxes, it is fair to say that the boy on the Solstickan match box is the most famous boy in Sweden. More than 600 billion sold matches has enabled the foundation to donate more than 100 million SEK to those who need it. All Solstickan matches are produced at the Swedish Match factory in Tidaholm, Sweden.
– It is an alert 80-year old that we celebrate! In 2015, we were able to contribute to 23 important projects or camps for children. I do believe that our symbol is known to almost every Swede, but not everybody knows about the history and the purpose behind the brand. When you buy your match box you are enabling us to help those who are in need, and that is an important message to spread on this occasion, says Rolf Byberg, Sales director at Swedish Match Industries in Tidaholm.
